20 years ago today, Comcast, PBS, HiT Entertainment, and Sesame Workshop teamed up to launch the world's first 24-hour preschool digital network - PBS KIDS Sprout. Besides airing PBS and HiT Entertainment shows, as well as different shows from around the world, the network was known for its original programs and hosted programming blocks, the one thing everyone - kids, adults, and critics alike - loved about it. The network lasted until 2017, when Universal Kids took over its channel space, and that network shut down this year on March 6 after 7 years of service. 20 years have passed, and here's a special song to celebrate.
[humming of Let's Make a Craft]
Melanie: (spoken) It still fits, kind of.
Oh... hi, Sproutlets... it's you.
Hey, Nina, come here.
Look who it is.
Nina: Oh, hey.
Melanie: (singing) It feels like just yesterday
Kevin: The first time you came to play
Miles: Sprout Spotter
Nina: A storybook
Kelly: But that wasn't all it took
Sean: Through the seasons
Noodle: Through the years
Banjo: There's a reason we are here
Patty: For every game, and every song
Bean:Someone's been there, all along
Liz: Through rain and sunny days
Yeah
Carly: Who was always on the case? Yeah
All: Who-o-o-o?
You can't spell Sprout Without you
(chorus) You were always there
And you
Every friend there, old and new
Every art and letter, too-o-o-o
We were free to grow and use our minds,
All preschool all the time, and
We made our mark But we knew-ew-ew-ew
You can't spell Sprout without YOU!
Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na na na na na Na na na
Miles: Remember when we went to the moon and
Star: The Preschool Musical was so amazing
Mrs. C: Holidays
Kevin: Present time
Kelly: Superheroes flying by
Patty: Yeah, at the theater, there's so much to share and
Curtis: I play my stand-up bass there and
Mr. C: Bunji
Mrs. C: Stitches
Sean: Doodle, too, and
Noodle: Oh, and remember the permanent sandcastle we made for Lexi and Lucas?
Sean: Sure do
Miles: We had birthday parties
Liz: Pajama parties
Dennisha: Kids were born - Oh, don't get me started
Patty: Declan was SO cute!
Tim: I had a guitar.
Star: Yeah, I looked ... different.
Banjo: Oh, and...
Chica: (squeaks "The Birthday Song")
Everyone: Oh.
Ricky: Yeah, the song.
Chica: Squeak!
(chorus)
All: You, you were always there
And you
Every friend there, old and new
Every art and letter, too-o-o-o
We were free to grow and use our minds,
All preschool all the time, and
We made our mark But we knew-ew-ew-ew
That we owe it all to you
Na na na na na na na na Na na na na na na na na
Na na na na na na na na
And you can't spell Sprout without you!
