This story takes place in the year 2001. Alex, who was then 4 years old, was a huge fan of Kari & Friends and wanted to be one of the kids on it so he could meet Kari and her friends, like Shakespeare the Snail. However, his mom Ellen told him "What if I told you Kari & Friends ended before you could even be on it?." PBS announced the show's end due to the show having enough episodes to re-air should they need to, that and they wanted to focus on new shows and properties for a new generation of children, like George Shrinks or Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat. On the day of the series finale's premiere, Alex and Ellen watched it together. Each episode of Kari & Friends ends with Kari talking to Ms. Moon, voiced by a known middle-aged actress, about the day's activities and singing the Goodbye Song with her, and when the show was about to end, Alex kept rewinding the VCR, and as you can see, Ellen is telling him he might "damage the video heads" if he kept doing that. Nowadays, he realizes that it can be just as heart-clenching as having to say goodbye to a close friend to pause the VCR and refuse to say goodbye to Kari. Inspired by Quinton Reviews' experience with Steve's final episode of Blue's Clues, while the Goodbye Song is based on "Remember Me" from Coco with hints of the Bear in the Big Blue House one. Here are the lyrics:
Time to go
It's time to say goodbye
Time to go
Don't you weep and cry
We'll see each other tomorrow when the day is new
It'll be just like today, even when it's through
Time to go
Even though it's time for bed
Time to go
See us in your head
The moon, Kari, and everyone you know
We'll see you again, but for now it's time to go
And Gregsung, named after the other male yellow wiggle, is based on Samsung.
