This story took place 21 years ago, when Alfalfa was almost 14.
Brussel grew up in Wildwood, New Jersey, and that's where he and his immediate family go every summer starting when Alfalfa was almost 10 (that year, they went twice). Jump 4 years later, and Alfalfa was pretty excited about going, as with every trip, and she enjoyed swimming at the beach, making sandcastles, pizza and french fries for dinner, and endless golf cart rides, but, after a few days, after a cart ride, Bean heard Alfalfa sobbing from the room she was staying.
BEAN: I wonder what's the matter. (opens the door) Honey, can I come in?
ALFALFA: Sure.
(Bean comes in and kneels down by Alfalfa's bed)
BEAN: Alfalfa, sweetie, what's wrong?
ALFALFA: I...I...I miss home.
BEAN: Really?
ALFALFA: Yeah, I miss my own room, I miss Banjo, and Alex, *sniff* Melanie, and Mrs. C ... *sniffs twice* everybody. (continues crying)
BEAN: Aww, sweetie, sounds like you're homesick.
ALFALFA: Oh, I know.
BEAN: Even I got homesick when I was your age, but, you know what I did?
ALFALFA: What?
BEAN: I kept having fun and doing the things I liked to do best until I felt better, and, you know what, I was pretty happy and refreshed when I did return home!
ALFALFA: Oh, okay. I feel a lot better now.
BEAN: Thanks for talking to me!
ALFALFA: You're welcome!
BEAN: Mind if I leave you alone, now?
ALFALFA: Sure.
And with that, Bean left the room, closing the door behind her (since Alfalfa has a fear of doors being open), and Alfalfa felt all better. She's had a few doses of homesickness on the trips since then, but keep in mind that it's okay to be homesick when on vacation, but little by little, you'll feel better. After all, there's so much to do!
