Here's another in-universe show I created for the Sprout universe. Introducing Squishy the Griffin!
Squishy debuted in 1971 as a programming block on TV in between kids' shows called Squishy's Backyard Friends, in which he would play with a group of kids in a backyard and they would sing songs, usually children's favorites like "The Wheels on the Bus," "Bingo," or "Old MacDonald Had a Farm." Originally, it was just Squishy and the kids, but side characters appeared occasionally and in 1979, Little Lulu (not to be confused with the comic character), a toddler female griffin, was added. He was so popular, but didn't even have his own show, so in 1984, the TV executives decided to give him one - the hugely popular eponymous series. More characters were added, such as Little Lulu's older brother LJ (short for Lyman Jack), who likes to play games and sports, their cousin Rondo, who loves music and inventing things, chipmunk Skipper McAccy (Mic-ay-key) and pink bird Miss Manners, Benjamin the Bookworm (a literal worm), and human characters Miss Sadie the Story Lady and janitor Mr. Joy, and again, more kids. More original songs were also added. And in 1987, the setting switched from an elementary school library and gym to a clubhouse/playroom said to be Squishy's home.
Squishy's TV show ran from 1984 to 1991, and he continued to appear on his television station in telethons and the nightly "goodnight" bumper (there have been different ones throughout the years). He's never not been popular, and is mainly a hit towards kids, but parents, not so much, for they consider him to be too overly happy, and there has even been an I Hate Squishy Club at Curtis' high school (before he moved to the Hills)! A lot of the residents of the Hills of Sprout grew up with Squishy, remember his songs and what he taught them, and Patty says she even saw him live once when she was in preschool!
With what's out there for kids to watch nowadays (sorry, I really need to stop abusing modern kids' shows), I'm starting to gather newfound respect for who Squishy is based on (even though I don't watch HIM). Can anyone guess who it is?
